Bridge Project
- While in high school, my team was tasked with creating a bridge out of popsicle sticks. This was one of my first engineering projects.
- Objective:: create a bridge out of popsicle sticks that can support the most weight as possible while being as light as possible.
- Design: our bridge frame is made out of 5 popsicle layers. We used an X-pattern along the top and sides (truss) because it forms triangles and triangles are the most rigid shape.
- Manufacturing: We decided to stain the popsicle sticks red to give the bridge some color since the bare wooden popsicle sticks were very bright and pale. We used wood glue to hold the popscile sticks together. Scissors were used to cut the popsicle sticks.
- Results: Our bridge weighed 0.81 lbs and could carry a weight of 362 pounds.
